Lilliana Noriega Sets LAVC Record, Men's Squad Finishes Third at Western State Conference Swim and Dive Meet Two

VALLEY GLEN - Freshman Lilliana Noriega was the standout Monarch during a very successful Western State Conference meet number two for both Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving.

Noriega finished in first place in the 50-yard freestyle sprint, posting a time of 25 seconds flat.  The 25 second race broke a school record that was first set in 1975! She is currently ranked second in the State and looking to improve on her school record!

Noriega continued her fantastic day with two relay races with teammates Zoey Francis, Kyra Freemon and Liza Gorelik.  These Monarchs finished in second place in the 400-yard freestyle relay and fourth in the 400-yard medley relay.

Freemon did not just show off swimming, but ended up with a third-place finish in the one-meter dive.  Women's Swimming and Diving finished fourth overall in an incredibly successful day out in the pool.

Men's Swimming and Diving finished third overall, Saturday, March 18, behind solid finishes in the pool and off the diving board.

Freshman Daniel Smykovsky had two second place finishes off the board - one in the one-meter dive with a 158.75 final score and his second second place finish with a score of 141.11 in the three meter dive. Erik Sarkissian swam a time of 23.08 to finish third in the 50-yard freestyle race.

Three Monarchs had important fourth place finishes to help propel the team to their third-place finish - Miguel Nava scored 148.15 in the one-meter dive, Hakop Ansuryan finished fourth in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 51.14 and finally Casey Surber finished the same in the 200-yard breaststroke.

What a beautiful day and great job Monarchs!
