Bio

Born in Santa Ana, California, Coach Hang grew up unaware of what she would accomplish as a women’s basketball player and coach. She was the starting point guard on the Mark Keppel High School varsity basketball team as a freshman, and earned All-League honors for three seasons. Her junior year, Hang received the Almont League MVP award, the Pasadena Star News San Gabriel Valley All-West Player of the Year award, LA Times San Gabriel Valley (East & West) Top Eight award, and was named First Team All-CIF Division IAA Southern Section. Unfortunately, her high school career was cut short due to a knee injury.

After graduating from Mark Keppel, she moved on to play basketball at Ventura College under Coach Ned Mircetic. Hang started six games her first year before being sidelined by another knee injury. She was a valuable member of VC’s undefeated, 38-0 state title team of 2000. Hang came back after a medical redshirt and was a key player in VC’s second-straight state title in 2001, earning CCCAA All-State Tournament honors. Hang’s sophomore season, she earned Western State Conference First Team All-Conference and directed the Pirates to an unprecedented three-peat as the 2002 state champions. She once again demonstrated her clutch ability in being named to the All-State Tournament team for the second straight year. Hang holds the school record for games played (78). Over three years, her teams were a combined 105-6 with three undefeated WSC titles and Hang is the proud owner of three state championship rings.

After earning her Associate of Arts degree from Ventura College, Hang transferred to Cumberland College in Kentucky on a full athletic scholarship. At Cumberland, she led the Patriots to the Mid-South Conference Championship and an appearance at the NAIA National Championship Tournament. Her 2003-2004 team still holds the school’s best record at 28-4. Hang was a two-time NAIA All-America Scholar Athlete as well as a MSC All-Conference and Academic All-Conference selection. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Movement and Leisure Studies in 2004. Hang  received her Master’s degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in teaching from California State  University, Los Angeles in 2006. In May 2014, Hang was inducted to the Ventura College Pirate Athletic Hall of Fame.

Hang has spent the past 18 seasons as a community college women’s basketball head coach. She spent five years at Glendale College before landing at Los Angeles Valley College. Coach Hang enters her 14th season as head coach for the Monarchs women’s basketball program. In 2018, the Monarchs were the only team to go undefeated in the Western State Conference for men’s and women’s basketball. In 2017, Hang’s 2015-2016 Monarchs received the CCCAA Scholar Team award and the 2016-2017 team won the Western State Conference East Division Championship and made a trip to the State Sweet 16. Hang has also led the Monarchs to back-to-back Western State Conference South Division Championships in 2013 and 2014. She directed her 2013-2014 team to the State Elite Eight. In June 2023, Hang’s 2013-2014 team and past player, Ani Avanessian from 2013, were inducted to the LAVC Athletic Hall of Fame.

Hang has developed seven CCCWBCA All-State, 31 CCCWBCA Academic All-State, five WSC Player of the Year, 38 WSC All-Conference players, five Los Angeles Valley College Female Athlete of the Year, six Los Angeles Valley College Scholar Athlete, and six NCAA Division I student-athletes. Hang takes pride in equipping her players with the necessary skills to succeed in the classroom, on the court, and in life.
