Women's Basketball Storms Back to Beat AVC in Overtime

LANCASTER, CA - On National Girls and Women's Sports Day, Monarchs Women's Basketball overcame a 14 point deficit to beat Antelope Valley College, 74-71 in overtime!

The Monarchs started slow on the road, scoring just three points in the first quarter.  At the end of the first half, Women's Basketball found themselves down 30-17, looking at their first loss in a month.  A tough, but inspirational speech from head coach Monica Hang changed everything in the second half.

Inching closer to cutting into the Marauder lead, the Monarchs were still down double digits going into the fourth quarter.  But what a fourth quarter it was!  The Monarchs out scored Antelope Valley 27-13 in the fourth, to end regulation tied!  It was all Monarchs from there, solidifying the win, keeping the wins streak alive.

Jordyn Jiron was a huge part of the comeback, scoring a team leading 17 points and collecting nine rebounds.  Four other Monarchs scored in the double-digits, helping the cause - Jacqueline Privado and Juliet Jaramillo scored 14 points each, Emilie Brugna had 11 and Dyani Del Castillo had 10 points and five rebounds.

What an incredible comeback, Monarchs!  The Women hit the road, once again, Saturday, February 4, to play at Glendale at 3:00 p.m.
