Softball Beats Santa Monica with Double Digit Runs

VALLEY GLEN, CA - Softball won their first game of 2024 in dramatic fashion, beating Santa Monica 17-3!

Santa Monica opened the game by loading the bases.  Starting pitcher Briana Gaskill was able to get out of the inning giving up just one run to the Corsairs.  The Monarchs answered back offensively in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs. That lead did not last long, however, when Santa Monica scored two to tie up the game 3-3 going into the bottom of the second inning.

The Monarchs took off scoring once they hit the second inning.  Over the next three innings the Monarchs scored 14 runs, including 11 in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Most importantly, pitching and defense held the Corsairs to just the three runs at the beginning of the game.

Six different Monarchs - Briana Gaskill, Danielle Hebri, Clarisa Robles, Isabella Ortega, Precious Romero (pictured right) and Natalie Amescua - hit in two runs batted in each.  Angelica Altamirano (pictured left) was the star of the game, though - she was 2-3 at the plate with two doubles and three RBIs.  She also was the winning pitcher in the circle, giving up just one hit over three and two-thirds innings.

Softball plays Santa Monica again on Tuesday, March 5, this time at Santa Monica.  First pitch will be at 2:30 p.m.
