Men's and Women's Swim Finished Second at Western State Conference Meet Three

SANTA CLARITA, CA - Men's and Women's Swimming had a very strong showing at Western State Conference meet number three with the Monarchs finishing second overall.

For the second meet in a row Lilliana Noriega finished in first place in the 50 yard freestyle sprint!  She finished with a time of 25.67.  Noriega followed up that race with a second place finish in the 100 yard freestyle.  Liza Gorelik also participated in  those two races and came in a solid fourth place in both.  Kelly Long had two successful races of her own - in the 1650 yard freestyle race she finished third with a time of 21:12.73 and in the 200 breaststroke she finished fourth. Zoe Nguyen finished third in the 200 butterfly race and Zoey Francis also finished third in the 200 breaststroke.  

Once again, the 800 freestyle relay team of Noriega, Long, Francis and Gorelik finished second, just behind a strong College of the Canyons team, with a time of 9:22.11.  All these top finishes helped the Women's Swim team finish in second place for the day.

Men's Swim had a ton of top four finishes of their own that helped propel them into the second place finish.  Two different relay teams finished in second place - the 400 medley relay team of Charles Patsch, Ethan Francis, Andrew Guerrero and Hakop Ansuryan posed a time of 4:06.60; the 800 freestyle relay team of Ansuryan, Sargis Kaputikyan, Erik Sarkissian and Guerrero swam a time of 8:10.07. 

Guerrero finished second in the 200 butterfly, Casey Surber also finished second in the 200 breaststroke.  Third place finishes went to Sarkissian in the 50 freestyle, Francis in the 200 breaststroke and to Marism Ayrapelyan in the 200 butterfly.  To round out the overall second place finish, Sarkissian finished fourth in the 100 freestyle and Ethan McHorney finished fourth in the 400 IM.

Great showing Monarchs!  Men's and Women's Swimming next travels to East LA for a three day meet April 6-8.
