Men's Basketball Opens Up Conference Play with a Win

VALLEY GLEN, CA - The LAVC Men's Basketball team opened up Western State Conference play with a 80-69 win over College of the Canyons Wednesday.

The Monarchs dominated the first half with team play, excellent ball movement and stellar defense.  Going into the half the Monarchs were up 50-36.

It looked dicey in the second half when Canyons began to storm back and got the game within one.  Monarch foul trouble contributed to the Cougars comeback, but timely substitutions, missed free throws by Canyons, and made free throws from Valley solidified the win.

Kory Blunt (pictured right) led the Monarchs with 25 points and eight rebounds.  Blunt has had back-to-back games scoring 20 plus points.  Yah Humphrey (pictured left) has joined Blunt with back-to-back 20 point games - he scored 22 tonight, including clutch free throws at the end of the game to pull away.

Great way to open up conference, Monarchs!  The Men hit the road this Saturday, January 13, traveling to Antelope Valley College to continue conference at 3:00 p.m.
