Men's Basketball Beats Ventura With Balanced Attack

VALLEY VILLAGE, CA - Men's Basketball beat Ventura 81-73 with a balanced attack on offense and defense.

To start the game, it was a back-and-forth affair with both teams swapping leads several times.  About mid way through the first half, though, Ventura began to pull away and looked like they were going to leave the Monarchs in the dust.  This was when the Monarchs flipped the game their way - and went into to halftime up by three, 38-35.

Right out of the break the Monarchs meant business. Key steals and defensive stops helped the Monarchs grow their lead throughout the second half. The stellar defensive mixed with some incredible ball movement and layups led the Monarchs to their 81-73 win.

Derrick Anderson (pictured) led every one with 22 points in the game, including being 7-9 from the free throw line.  He also contributed to the key steals with four in the game.  Kory Blunt also scored in the double-digits with 17 points.  Yah Humphrey followed with 14 of his own points.  Chris Berrera led with eight assists in the game and Andrew Angulo had nine points, all coming in the second half as the Monarchs grew their lead, and three key steals.

Men's Basketball's next game is Friday, December 15 at Irvine Valley at 6:00 p.m.
