Seven Monarch Football Players Named Defensive All-Conference

VALLEY GLEN, CA - Seven Monarch Football players were named to the 2023 Pacific League All-Conference Defensive team.

Isai Perez II and Tony Newsome were both named first team.  Five Monarchs - Julius Earl, Tierre Butler, Grant Lattimer, Isaiah Paul and Damion Thompson were all named to the Pacific League second team.

Isai Perez II did a little bit of everything on defense this year.  He totalled 45 tackles on the year - both his own tackles and ones he assisted teammates with.  He had two and a half sacks on the year, with two of those sacks coming at Compton.  Perez also had three fumbles on defense, including one he returned for a touchdown.  This versatility on defense earned him the first team recognition.

Tony Newsome was a tackling machine for the Monarchs, with his biggest tackle total coming against Southwest with nine.  His most successful game came against Pasadena this year with he had two interceptions that he ran back for a total of 90 yards.  Newsome also included two fumble recoveries on his 2023 stat sheet, earning him first team honors.

Julius Earl contributed one interception for the 2023 season.  Earl's highest tackle total was five against Pierce, earing him second team honors.

Tierre Butler had an incredible 11 tackles against Pierce and one fumble on the year.

Grant Lattimer totalled five tackles against Chaffey and Victory Valley in 2023.  Like Earl and Butler, he too had a fumble recovery for the Monarchs.

Isaiah Paul had four interceptions for the Monarchs, his longest return after an interception was 17 yards.  A well deserved second team honor.

Finally, Damion Thompson had three interceptions on the year, with his longest return totalling 27 yards.  He also had five tackles in the game against Santa Monica.

Incredibly well deserved for these seven Monarchs!
