Football Extends Winning Streak Against West LA

VALLEY GLEN - The L.A. Valley College Football team extended their winning streak over the weekend with a 23-17 win over West L.A.

The Monarchs jumped out to a commanding league on the beautiful Saturday afternoon.  The scoring started with a field goal from Daylen Ortiz, putting the Monarchs up 3-0.  Ortiz was one for two on field goal tries and two for three with extra points in the game.

Jackson Fletcher scored the first touchdown on the day, but from the defensive side of the ball.  Fletcher intercepted the ball in the second quarter and ran in back into the end zone, putting the score at 10-0 Monarchs.  Fletcher had an outstanding game with six total tackles, one sack and the pick six for the touchdown.  He was named the Football team's Defensive Player of the Week.

The second touchdown was scored by Jason Wagner Jr. (pictured) on a 33 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Wesley Tshimanga.  Wagner, who was named the Football team's Offensive Player of the Week, had 172 total yards in the game.  At this point, before the half, the Monarchs had a comfortable 17-0 lead over West L.A.

The second half appeared to be West L.A.'s, though, because the Wildcats came back and tied the score with six minutes to go in the game.

Calm and collected, the Monarchs fought back to win with a Tshimanga touchdown pass to Keyshawn Parks.  Tshimanga had 195 total yard and two touchdown passes in the game.

Monarchs Football hits the road for their next game against Santa Ana on Saturday 30, at 6:00 p.m.
