Bio

Coach Mallas enters his 18th season as head coach of the Monarchs' baseball program.  He came from nearby Los Angeles Mission College where he quickly established a winning record in his first two years, Including a berth in the Super Regionals his second year. 

Arriving at Valley, he took the reins of a struggling LAVC program and quickly amassed a 23-16 record enroute to a Western State Conference Southern Division championship in 2005. In 2010 he returned to post-season play, winning his second Western State Conference title as the Monarchs downed Rio Hondo in a best of three series. Once again, in 2012, he returned the Monarchs to the postseason after downing Bakersfield in a wild card game.

Mallas is in search of players who are students of the game as well as willing to put their education first. He feels that players improve only if they set big yet realistic goals for themselves. “Personal improvement is the key,” he says, “for many student-athletes to be successful at what they do in life.”

A local product, Mallas is a Diamond Bar native; he played at Diamond Bar High School for four Years before transferring to Rancho Santiago Community College (now known as Santa Ana College) where he was part of  the 1995 California Junior College State Championship team. in 1996, he moved to California State University, Chico, where he earned his bachelors degree. In 1997, while playing for the Wildcats, he enjoyed a successful run at the national championship. Following graduation, Mallas transferred to Azusa Pacific University where he received his Masters in Education.

Mallas' responsibilities at the college include supervising the Adaptive Physical Education Center and teaching kinesiology. During his off time, Coach Mallas enjoys family life with his son, Tyson, 16; his daughter, Haley, 12; and his wife, Ginger.
