Monarchs Baseball - 2024 Western State Conference Champions

Congratulations to the 2024 Western State Conference Champion Los Angeles Valley College Monarchs Baseball team!

The Monarchs solidified the conference championship on Thursday, April 18, with a 7-1 win over Mission, and Citrus' win over Glendale.  This wasn't the only impressive win the Monarchs took on the march to the title.

With one series to go, the Monarchs have won every Western State Conference series during the 2024 season; and swept five out of six series.  The Monarchs only loss during the first six series came in a rain shortened, six inning game against Glendale College.

This is head coach Dave Mallas' third Western State Conference title - he led the Monarchs to the championships in 2005, 2010 and now in 2024.

Helping LA Valley Baseball to win the title were these outstanding offensive seasons by individual Monarchs: Tino Valdez led the team batting .543 during conference, he also had 14 runs batted in (RBIs) and seven stolen bases.  Royce Clayton, Jr. led the team with six home runs while batting .385, stealing 15 bases and hitting in 23 runs. Alden Quintanilla hit .412 in the Western State Conference with a .500 on base percentage.

On the mound, these three Monarchs carried the ballclub to victory: Cole Clark was 4-1 in conference and gave up just four earned runs in six starts.  Daniel Tovar was perfect going 3-0, striking out 35 in 32 and 2/3 innings.  James Coker was 2-0 in two starts and collected a save during Western State Conference play.

Baseball's final series comes against Antelope Valley College Tuesday, April 23, Thursday, April 25 and Friday, April 26.  Tuesday is an exciting day in Baseball program history, the Monarchs will play their first game under their new stadium lights at 6:00 p.m.  Thursday will be played at Antelope Valley, first pitch will be at 6:00 p.m.  The final game of the regular season will be played Friday at 2:30 p.m.

Monarchs Baseball will begin State Playoffs Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4.  They will find out their opponent once the regular season concludes.
