Baseball Takes Series From Folsom After 5-1 Win

VALLEY GLEN, CA - The LAVC Baseball team took the series from Folsom Lake over the weekend, 2-1.

Game one started out rough for the Monarchs when their bats went cold as soon as the first pitch was thrown.  Folsom put together a few good innings and went into the bottom of the ninth up 7-0 on the Monarchs.  This was when the Monarchs woke up and scored four runs.  Vic Pico and Eddie Zapata each hit in a run.  Dorian Asher followed with a two-run double.  This left runners at first and third for Oskar Stark to try to tie it up. Stark came up short and the final score of game one was 7-4 Falcons.

Game two saw a much better result for the Monarchs.  In the bottom of the second inning Jackson Frankovich hit a two run home run over the right field fence.  Frankovich had a day for the Monarchs.  He was 5-5 with the home run, three doubles, four runs batted in and three runs scored.  Frankovich's offense and pitching performances from Valley's starter and bullpen helped the Monarchs split the series after two games.  Daniel Tovar threw five innings, giving up just one run and striking out six.  The bullpen held the Falcons to just six runs making the final score of game two 10-6 Monarchs.

Game three, on an early Saturday morning, was the rubber match to break the tie between the Falcons and the Monarchs.  It was a bit of a weird one, but saw the Monarchs victorious.  The Monarchs scored four runs before ever getting a hit in game three.  It was the pitching performance, once again, that propelled the Monarchs to victory.  Starting pitcher Cole Clark went six scoreless innings, giving up just three hits and one walk.
Spencer Kratt, Alex Cohen and James Coker each threw an inning, with Cohen giving up the one run.

Incredible team efforts from the pitching, offense and defense helped the Monarchs get the series win over the Falcons.

Baseball returns home on Thursday, February15 for a game against Pierce at 1:00 p.m.
