Veloz Throws Another Gem in Win Over Mission

VALLEY GLEN - Sophomore Danny Veloz threw another gem for the Monarchs in a 8-1 win over L.A. Mission College.

Veloz, who has committed to the University of Hawaii, threw seven innings giving up just one run in his last inning, the seventh.  In his seventh win of the season Veloz struck out three and battled out of a couple innings where Mission threated with runners on.  With just three strikeouts in the game, Veloz relied heavily on his defense.

Royce Clayton, Jr. picked up Veloz and the Monarchs both defensively and offensively.  Out on defense, Clayton, Jr. roamed around centerfield catching everything that was hit near him.  Two different times he ran from left center field to right center field to catch a flyball and get an important out for the Monarchs.  Taking his defensive successes up to the plate with him, Clayton, Jr. had an outstanding day offensively, as well.

As the leadoff hitter, he was 2-4 with two incredibly exciting triples.  His second triple of the game cleared the bases which netted him three RBIs.

Clayton, Jr. led things off and the next four Monarchs followed his lead.  The first five hitters in the Monarch lineup each had two hits in the game - Clayton, Jr., Tyler Olivas, Bobby Velasco, Sean David and Max Aude.  Further down in the lineup Luis Torres also had two hits going 2-3 with two runs scored.

After Veloz excellent seven innings, Josh Eigenbrodt throwing two outstanding innings, giving up zero hits and striking out three.
