Five Monarch Basketball Players Receive Western State Conference Honors

The LAVC Men's and Women's Basketball teams had five Monarchs named to the All-Western State Conference teams.

The Women had three Monarchs named - Mary Corbett and Samantha Maldonado were named to the First Team and Madison Guerrero was an Honorable Mention.

Corbett (far left) averaged 16 points a game in Western State Conference play and shot 30% from three point range.  She had her best game of her freshman year, and set a career high, against Bakersfield when she scored 34 points, including seven three pointers.

Maldonado (second left) incredibly averaged a double-double throughout Conference play.  She averaged 12 points and 11 rebounds a game.  Helping her get that double-double average was a 48% field goal percentage from the field.  Her career high came at Canyons when she scored 22 points for the Monarchs.

Guerrero (middle) averaged 12 points a game and shot 40% from three point range her first year in college.  The last five games of the season Guerrero scored double digit points including a career high 24 points at Citrus College.

Men's Basketball had two Monarchs named to the All-Western State Conference team - Yah Humphrey was the lone First Team recipient and Kory Blunt was named Honorable Mention.

Humphrey (second right) averaged 18 points a game and shot 45% from the field.  Three out of the last four Monarchs games saw Humphrey score 30 or more points - he scored 30 at Citrus and scored 34 twice, once at home against Santa Monica and once at Bakersfield to end the 2023-24 season.

Blunt (far right) averaged 15 points a game during Conference play at shot 31% from three point range.  Five times during Conference Blunt scored 20 or more points, including tying a career high with 25 against College of the Canyons.
