Jiron, Veloz and Kaputikyan Named Athlete of the Year

VALLEY GLEN - Congratulations to the Los Angeles Valley College Athletes of the Year - Jordyn Jiron of Women's Basketball, Danny Veloz of Baseball and Sargis Kaputikyan of Men's Water Polo.

Jordyn Jiron was named the Western State Conference Co-MVP for the 2022-23 season which led to her being named to the second team All-State team. She averaged 14 points per game and shot 33% from behind the three point line.  Jiron led her team in points in 15 games this season and pushed the Monarchs to a playoff berth where the team reached the second round. She will be furthering her academic and athletic career at Simpson University.

Danny Veloz had eye-popping stats during the 2023 spring season which led to his selection as Pitcher of the Year in the Western State Conference and an All-State team selection.  He started 14 games for the Monarchs going 8-2 overall.  He had a 1.46 earned run average in 80 innings pitched.  His domination came in conference, though.  Veloz went a perfect 5-0 and gave up just one earned run.  He will being furthering his academic and athletic carrer and the University of Hawaii.

Sargis Kaputikyan was first team all Western State Conference and also an All-State selection.  He was first in California in steals and seventh in the state in scoring.  Kaputikyan is still deciding where he will be headed to for his four year career.

Congratulations to all our Athletes of the Year!  Incredible, stand out seasons, Monarchs!  We can't wait to watch what you do at the next level.
