VALLEY VILLAGE - Sophomore Jordyn Jiron made a lay-up with less than one second left in the game to beat San Francisco City, 61-59, to help the Monarchs finish third in the LAVC Buddy's All-Star Classic.
It was a back-and-forth affair, with the Monarchs taking a seven point lead with five minutes to go in the game. San Fransisco stormed back to tie the game with two and a half minutes left on the clock. After trading leads, Jiron muscled her way into the key and put up a lay-up on the right side to solidify the win.
Fittingly, Jiron led the Monarchs with 19 points. She also had nine rebounds and seven assists and was named to the All-Star Classic All-Tournament team.
Two other Monarchs finished with double-digit points - Jackie Privado and Dyani Del Castillo had 14 points each.
Congratulations to the Monarchs on a hard fought win!
