Softball and Baseball Win Home Double-Header
VALLEY GLEN, CA - Softball and Baseball won their home double-header against Oxnard and Bakersfield, respectively, on a beautiful April Friday.
Softball began the day at 1:00 p.m. beating Oxnard 9-4. Briana Gaskill got the scoring started with a two-run home run in the bottom of the third, putting the Monarchs up 2-0. The fourth through sixth inning saw the lead slip away and going into the bottom of the sixth inning the Monarchs found themselves down 4-2. The bottom of the sixth saw the Monarchs bust the game wide open.
Clarisa Robles began the inning with a home run of her own to deep center field. This put the Monarchs down by just one run, 4-3. By the end of the inning Robles hit a double to left center, scoring Dani Hebri, putting the Monarchs on top, 9-4. The sixth inning score ended up holding and the Monarchs got the victory, 9-4.
Robles was 3-4 with a home run, double and two RBIs. Gaskill had game of twos across the board - she had two hits in two at bats, two RBIs, two runs scored and two walks in the game.
Baseball finished the day beating Bakersfield 16-4. This win completed the sweep of Bakersfield, helping the Monarchs in the Western State Conference.
Royce Clayton, Jr. had a monster game going 3-3 with two home runs, four runs batted in and two runs scored. Tino Valdez had an equally impressive game going 4-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored for the Monarchs.
Softball and Baseball play another home double-header on Thursday, April 18, both games being played at 2:30 p.m. Softball will celebrate their Sophomores against Glendale. Baseball will play game two in a three game series against Mission.
